Seasonal Position | June 21 – July 18 | On-Site, Residential
About Hack Club
Hack Club is a global nonprofit that empowers teenagers to become highly-skilled, creative problem solvers through technology skills development, career-training, and financial literacy.
About the Role
The Dorm Parent is a live-in supervisory role responsible for the safety, wellbeing, and day-to-day residential life of 24 high school interns (ages 14–18). You'll be the first point of contact for anything outside of work hours — from a homesick intern at 11pm to a fire drill at 7am. You're a trusted adult presence who keeps things running smoothly so interns can focus on doing great work. You’ll also facilitate lunch for the team during the work week.
This is a four-week, fully residential position. You will live on-site for the duration of the program (June 21 – July 18).
Location: In-person in Burlington, Vermont
Pay: $750 stipend/week
Responsibilities
Provide overnight supervision and be on-call for all residential needs (through phone contact or Hack Club’s online messaging in Slack)
Enforce quiet hours and community guidelines in a fair and consistent way
Facilitate daily lunch catered from a local restaurant or catering service for interns and team at Hack Club HQ
Build genuine, supportive relationships with interns while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
Serve as the first responder for medical concerns, emotional distress, or interpersonal conflict, escalating to program leadership when appropriate
Coordinate logistics for meals, transportation, and group outings as needed
Communicate proactively with program staff about any safety concerns, policy violations, or intern wellbeing issues
Help create a welcoming, inclusive residential culture where every intern feels respected and at home
Qualifications
Experience working with teenagers in a supervisory, mentorship, or caregiving capacity (e.g., camp counselor, RA, teacher, youth program staff)
Strong judgment and calm under pressure — you've handled a crisis before and didn't panic
Warm, approachable, and genuinely likes teenagers
Able to enforce rules without being authoritarian; comfortable holding the line while staying kind
Excellent communication skills — with both teenagers and adult colleagues
CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain certification before the program start date)
Cleared background check required
Nice to Have
Familiarity with Hack Club, coding culture, or tech communities
Experience in residential life (dorms, overnight camps, boarding schools)
Compensation and Logistics
$750 stipend for the four-week program
Housing and meals at on-site dining hall provided for the full duration
You must be available to live on-site from June 21 through July 18 with no planned absences
