Hack Club Creative Events Engineer for Girls

Hack Club is a vibrant global community of young creators, hackers, and makers who are passionate about technology and innovation. Founded by a high school dropout in 2014, Hack Club now has tens of thousands of teenagers from the US and around the world, and has philanthropic support from SpaceX’s Gwynne Shotwell and Elon Musk, Michael Dell and Jack Dorsey.

Each year, Hack Club’s team of 22 people in our Vermont HQ support teenagers to develop their coding skills, run hackathons, finish coding challenges, run clubs and start their own projects.

We’re excited now to be hiring for our first software engineer to have the dedicated role of teaching coding to girls.

Job Description: Creative Events Engineer for Girls

Please note: please only apply if you are a US resident, and can work in person in Vermont

As a Creative Events Engineer for Girls at Hack Club, your responsibilities will include:

Creating YouShipWeShip Projects: Develop creative technical challenges that are accessible to everyone but specifically resonate with girls in our community.

Leading on Content Creation: Support girls to learn to make technical workshops for Day of Service (DoS) events

Organizing Days of Service: Lead a team of teenage girl coders to run their own hackathon, with 10 events to be planned in 2025, followed by a dinner with professional software engineers.

Conducting Workshops: Transform your project ideas into workshops that can be integrated into hackathons and clubs. Mentor and hire Hack Club girls to lead these workshops, providing them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills and share their expertise with others.

Being a Role Model: Lead by example as a role model for girls in tech, by meeting with them in person and on Slack. Develop strategies to attract and retain technical talent, aiming to have 100 highly skilled girls actively involved in Hack Club by the end of 2024.

You should be, either:

An advanced engineer who is inspired by the role of mentoring the next generation of female coders and wants to take a year off their career to work in this role at Hack Club. This person is very technical, and understands how to break down coding into workshops and projects for beginners to intermediate high school girls learning to finish their first coding project.

An beginner/intermediate engineer who has a CS degree, or is self-taught and can show a handful of coding projects on their GitHub. While this may be your first real job in programming, you have a strong desire to advance your technical skills by building projects consistently every week and sharing your learnings to all the teenagers at Hack Club

Additional Requirements:

You live in the US

You will work in person in our Vermont HQ

You have coding projects on an active GitHub account

You’ve reviewed Hack Club’s GitHub and our website

  • Salary depends on technical experience, with a range of between $50k-$100k based on experience

  • Vermont Preferred Gold health insurance from BlueCross BlueShield of Vermont

  • 4 weeks of PTO (including 1 week during the week of Christmas)

  • 11 additional paid holidays

  • $2,000 hardware stipend (enough for a MacBook Air, big monitor, etc)

  • We can support relocation

Thank you for considering joining out team and changing the lives of young women.

We’re excited to meet you!

best, Christina, Cofounder Hack Club
