Play a vital role in Hack Club’s nonprofit mission to create a “hacker generation”: these are millions of young people with technical skills, a positive, curious mindset, and a network of like-minded friends from all backgrounds.
Hack Club is a nonprofit education organization, founded by high-school dropout/coder Zach Latta and journalist Christina Asquith and run by a team of young, highly-creative engineers, overseeing a global network of tens of thousands of teen coders in the US and around the world.
We are looking for a creative, savvy, and opinionated storyteller to help get Hack Club in front of every technical teenager on the internet. Your goal is to conceptualize and execute on creating high quality content (both video and text) across our social media platforms to grow our movement, from 20,000 teenagers worldwide to hundreds of thousands of teen hackers.
Hack Club is engineer-led, and half of our staff is younger than 25. We are well supported by philanthropists, including a number of West Coast-based engineer-founders. Our mission is to create a generation of hackers– highly technical young people who want to solve problems in the world.
Our content features regularly atop Hacker News, and on GitHub Education’s blog + we've already been featured in Wall Street Journal, CBS News, and other newspapers. We have a presence on Twitter / YouTube / GitHub and have had content go viral.
In this new role, you’ll work with dozens of teen hackers, partner with Brand Caffeine in producing content, and report to the lead storyteller and co-founder, Christina Asquith, a former journalist, who has been leading our comms, among other duties. Over her career, she has written 2 books, reported a NYT op-docs, landed on the front page of Hacker News, and created viral tweets/YouTube videos.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consistently conceptualize and push out high quality social media
Create and curate engaging content with your team of 2-3 teenage content producers and lead content (text, images, videos, etc.) for Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok to build a loyal following and drive traffic
Coach and assist Hack Club teenagers to be able to speak about their Hack Club experiences and grow their communication skills
Collaborate with the editing team to ensure that all content is high-quality, on-brand, and meets our standards for excellence.
Curate and manage a 30-60-90 day content calendar
Analyze social media metrics to measure the success of our social media efforts and identify areas for improvement, and stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in social media and incorporate them into our social media strategy.
Work closely with the marketing and communications teams to ensure that our social media efforts align with our overall marketing strategy.
Monitor and respond to comments and messages on social media platforms, engaging with our audience and building relationships with our community
YOU’LL FIT THIS ROLE IF YOU:
Have minimum 3 years of experience in social media management
Have implemented social media strategies to increase brand awareness, engagement, and traffic across our social media platforms
Have created content that's gone viral and deeply understand social media or have led brand/marketing campaigns for organizations and have published writing/video/media that's been popular
Have a creative mindset with an eye for design and storytelling
Have the ability to use data to inform strategy
Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Leadership abilities, including training and mentorship
Technical aptitude, or energy to learn quickly, including enough knowledge of design software, online communities like Slack, coding programs, and Notion to work with the team
It’s a plus if have experience coding and building with technology
PAY, HOURS, AND BENEFITS
Competitive and negotiable salary
Full-time, flexible hours Monday through Friday
In person or remote if willing to visit Burlington, VT 4 times a year
