Hack Club is on a mission to support, inspire, and motivate high school coders around the world in creating coding clubs, hackathons, and building phenomenal projects.

We're seeking an Engineering Manager for Hack Club Bank, who is passionate about nurturing young talent, fostering a collaborative environment, and contributing to a nonprofit tech startup that's making a real difference in the lives of thousands of teenagers.

As the Engineering Manager for Hack Club Bank, you will be responsible for leading a diverse team of engineers, ranging from adult contractors to teenage part-time contributors. In this role, you will provide guidance and mentorship to help the team reach their full potential, contribute to large-scale engineering projects, and be an integral part of our fast-growing organization. You will have the opportunity to work in-person at our headquarters in Shelburne, Vermont.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers with diverse backgrounds and experiences, fostering their growth and development

  • Oversee an active GitHub repo, leveraging your experience with Git and GitHub to triage issues, PRs, and guide junior developers in their first contributions

  • Collaborate with Hack Club leadership (operations and tech) to prioritize work, set the roadmap, and contribute to strategic decision-making

  • Drive the open-sourcing of key projects like HCB, using your skills and experience in large-scale engineering endeavors

  • Onboard new Hack Club members into the codebase, ensuring a smooth and welcoming first-time experience

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing an engineering team, preferably in the finance or banking sector

  • Strong background in Git and GitHub, with a focus on collaboration, code review, and issue management

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers, with a passion for helping young talent grow

  • Proven track record of contributing to large-scale engineering projects and strategic decision-making

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate complex social environments empathetically and effectively

  • Experience in promoting visibility of work done on repos, showcasing achievements, and encouraging collaboration

Pay: $80,000 - $110,000 commensurate with experience
