Hack Club is seeking a Communications Strategist to join our team and lead our efforts to raise between $4-6 million this year. As a Communications Strategist at Hack Club, you will be responsible for reporting, writing, and designing all communications that go out to current and future donors.
Hack Club is a nonprofit education organization, founded by high-school dropout/coder Zach Latta and run by a team of young, highly-creative engineers, overseeing a global network of tens of thousands of teen coders in the US and around the world.
We are looking for a smart, creative communications specialist to craft media about Hack Club teenagers and what they create, as well as to capture our inspiring vision and mission, and translate it across various platforms, including email newsletters, blog/op-ed posts, direct emails, and curated collaborations with major tech companies and organizations (whilst avoiding any and all corporate partnerships or advertising tradeoffs.)
Our mission is to grow our movement, from 20,000 teenagers worldwide to hundreds of thousands of teen hackers. You'll be working mostly with talented teen hackers, and reporting to the co-founder, who is a former NYT journalist and social entrepreneur.
Your goal is to tell Hack Club's story, and place that content so that every technical founder/ aligned donor in the world is excited about supporting our mission. Hack Club is engineer-led, and half of our staff is younger than 25. We are well supported by philanthropists, including a number of West Coast-based engineer-founders.
The ideal candidate will have strong interest in internet communities, technology, video games, and telling stories.
If you have experience in writing and are excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of teenagers, we encourage you to apply for this role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Capture meaningful impact across the organization to communicate with our supporters
Create and send regular communications to stakeholders such as newsletters, proposals, and impact reports.
Strategize and execute bringing in new supporters into our community
Write proposals and meet deadlines
Ensure that all philanthropic efforts at Hack Club are effectively planned and executed.
Organize events such as dinners in various locations across the US
Use your expertise and creativity to elevate the impact of our philanthropic efforts
Make a deep and lasting impact on the lives of the talented teenagers who participate in Hack Club events
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
Proven experience in philanthropy or development, with a proven track record of success in these areas.
Excellent writing skills with a sophisticated style.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects at once.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach.
Strong familiarity with computers and a willingness to use new tools and technologies.
If you are excited about the opportunity to make a deep and lasting impact on the lives of teenagers, we would love to see your application. This is a challenging but rewarding role for the right person who is ready to make a positive difference in the world.
